Making abstract art using mixed media is about the human experience of connection. I draw on my memories, thoughts and feelings through experimentation without judgement. These internal adventures are expressed through shapes, colours and exploratory mark making, allowing me to freely express myself.
At some point in the making of each piece, a different part of my brain ignites and decisions are made using a critical eye, taking into consideration how the elements on the canvas relate to one another. My process is one of call and response. Creating and destroying, adding materials and scraping them away, pushing the differences between elements, and using my own life experiences to enhance and bring a sense of history in the layers. Big gestural marks next to tiny controlled lines create tension. In the end I have work that expresses who I was and how I felt in those moments of time.
BIO:
Vancouver based abstract painter Lisa Farrell has always been creative and originally expressed her creativity as an Interior Designer in both Vancouver and London, England. Lisa has degrees in Psychology and Interior Design, and has spent years travelling and living around the world. She has consistently furthered her education in the arts with courses in multiple mediums in Canada, the US, Mexico and the Europe. In 2021, Lisa set up a studio and launched her deep dive into making Art.
