Pilar is a Canadian/Bolivian artist who paints, draws, and sculpts from her imagination. Using techniques based in the academic method she works meticulously to bring about the characters in her work. The  anthropomorphic “Passarin” figure for example is modeled after the Cliff swallow who, like Pilar, migrates between Canada and Bolivia. It allows her to speak of all things migratory in poetic, whimsical ways.

A few words about my work.

I am drawn to juxtaposing the human figure with things in nature, and man-made constructions. This exploration reveals in a roundabout way the ebb of the prodigal and the found in my identity.
The characters in my work are responses to stories I hear or wanderings in my imagination who connect in some way to my search for the best way to interpret an idea, technically and otherwise.

My hope is that my work reaches, if but a little, the transcendent that rises beyond ordinary experience.
In the words of Pope Paul VI, in his letter to artists, “..grasp at treasures from the heavenly realm of spirit and clothe them in words, colours, forms-making them accessible”
