I have always been a maker, but it is only in my 60s that I have discovered my tools for making art: a needle and thread. What began as a fascination with the simple running stitch used in Japanese sashiko embroidery has developed into a stitching practice that is equal parts exploration and meditation. I stitch light and colour on my own jerky iPhone photographs with lustrous embroidery thread; I stitch calm, concentric circles on multi-layered fabric to create my ‘portals’; and I stitch found objects and repurposed fabrics into dense, tangled constructions. I am self taught as an embroiderer and a photographer.
Since stitching my first pieces in 2021, my artwork has been exhibited in numerous shows in BC, as well as Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Glasgow UK.
