Mary Bechler received her high school education in Germany, her BFA from Simon Fraser University followed by her Teachers’ Certificate. Mary taught Visual Art for 25 years at Burnaby High Schools. Since retirement Mary has been able to focus on her own art practice with emphasis on abstract painting and collage. Mary’s studio is an inspiring place created in the transformed garage of her home. Mary lives with her musician husband and their wonderful dog Luca.

Mary about her art work: “ My art practice is a fluid one. Building up my canvas with various marks and shapes, I allow them to dictate the next application of paints and/or mixed media. My interest is in uncovering hidden traces or language contained within the coincidences that occur within the process.
