Bronwyn McIvor is a Vancouver artist whose painting and drawing practice is focused on the intersection of the beautiful and the grotesque.  Using oils, inks, and watercolours, she follows different paths to explore the tension between that which attracts and that which repulses, transforming the mundane into something otherworldly and strange, and finding connection between them.

In The Undiscovered Kitchen, her close examination of everyday food and leftovers reveals its hidden detail and lush drama, in the process animating it with unexpected vitality.  It becomes landscape, portrait, or strangely unrecognizable presences, giving the viewer pause to appreciate the surreal qualities of everyday life.

Her Townsfolk show common ground and connection between ourselves and the monstrous by revealing human character in the otherworldly, while her Hothouse embraces the sensuality of oil paints, merging and contrasting the masculine physical ideal with the delicate intricacy of floral structures.
