Shelly Smee is the visionary founder and owner of Sunfire Studios Inc. — an interdisciplinary creative hub in the heart of Strathcona where glass, jewellery, drawing, and textiles come to life under one roof.
Shelly's love for glass art began in 1993 at Studio One Glass Art, where she studied under owner Yves Trudeau alongside local and visiting artists. Over the following decades, she deepened her craft through Terminal City Glass Coop, exploring glassblowing, flameworking, beadmaking, and cold working — all while building a successful 30-year real estate career.
In 2025, after years of planning and a pandemic-sized detour, Shelly walked into the Russell Hendrix building and immediately saw what it could become. She designed every corner of the space herself, bringing her vision of an accessible, welcoming creative community to life.
Today, Sunfire Studios offers memberships, dedicated bench rentals, a retail gallery, and an event atrium — and Shelly couldn't be more proud to open the doors.
